Derbyshire Soaring Club is one of the largest Hang gliding and Paragliding clubs in the UK with almost 500 members.
Located in the heart of the Peak District National Park, we have flying sites to cover most wind directions with some of the best XC potential in the UK.
We welcome visiting pilots but due to agreements with farmers and land owners all our sites are Strictly Members only.

Upton Corridor LOA Signed and Ready for Use from 28 August 2008

TO ACTIVATE FROM 28 AUGUST 2008 PLEASE CONTACT ONE OF THE FOLLOWING COMMITTEE MEMBERS:

IF YOU INTEND TO REQUEST ACTIVATION YOU WILL NEED TO HAVE COMPLETED THE FOLLOWING:

1. New RHADS airspace downloaded into your GPS map
2. Ring either Kathleen Rigg or Mike Miller to discuss the details of the LOA prior to the official airspace briefing later this Autumn

As previously announced on the web site the new class D RHADS airspace will take effect from 28 August 2008. The DSC committee has been busy negotiating two letter of agreements (LOAs) on your behalf to reduce the impact of the new airspace on cross country flights from DSC sites.

The first of these LOAs called the “Upton Corridor” has been signed and is ready for activation from 28 August onwards. This LOA enables the heights of CTA8 & CTA9 to be raised by 500’ when the letter of agreement is activated by named authorised club officials. This is to help flights from Stanage, Eyam and Shining Tor passing to the west of the new RHADS airspace.

The second LOA called the “Worksop Corridor” is still under negotiation due to some last minute adjustments. This should be finalised during September 2008 and will enable a corridor through the southern end of RHADS airspace in WSW->WNW winds from DSC sites when activated by named authorised club officials. This LOA is the first of it’s kind within the UK and the DSC is in-debted to the senior air traffic controller at RHADS who has spent many hours of his own time working with the committee to conceive and setup this unique arrangement.

The committee is awaiting finalisation of the Worksop corridor and then airspace briefings will be held to explain both the new airspace and the two LOAs in detail. There will be a credit card size pocket guide to explain who to contact to activate the LOAs and the special rules whilst flying through the two corridors. The website will also be updated this autumn to indicate when the corridors are activated.

Whilst the committee is setting up all of the above and confirming who the list of authorised club officials will be who can activate the airspace, please contact either myself or Mike Miller as listed above to discuss the details of the Upton LOA and also to activate it for a particular day.

Doncaster Sheffield (Finingley or Robin Hood Airport) Airpsace activation

From the 28 AUGUST 2008 the new airspace around Doncaster airport will take effect. People thinking of going XC after this date must make sure they now where the new airspace is located.

Temporary Memberships for Visiting Pilots

The DSC welcomes visiting pilots but due to agreements with farmers and land owners all our sites are members only.
Temporary 10-day memberships including a sites guide are now available from the Woodbine Cafe or online for £5, this is refundable if you later upgrade to annual membership.

Have you not been receiving the club magazine recently?

1) Do you pay by standing order?
Please check your bank statement to determine when the last payment was made. We probably can't reconcile your payment in our accounts. This can happen where the payment reference is not recognisable, for example if you have changed bank accounts or your bank has not included your name or DSC membership number as a reference when setting up the standing order.
Contact membership@derbyshiresoaringclub.org.uk with your payment date and, if you know them, DSC membership number and standing order reference details.
2) Have you changed your home or email address?
We may not have your new address details. Again, please contact membership@derbyshiresoaringclub.org.uk so we can update our records.

Club Coaches

A reminder to all Club Coaches, If you wish to remain as a DSC Club Coach you will need to send me your BHPA Membership Renewal form when you receive it from the BHPA, I need to sign it stating you are a valuable and active Club Coach for the DSC, If you no longer wish to remain as a Club Coach return the form to the BHPA.

Hi Steve, yes went to Brid, quite strong at the coast and very lifty with it. shared the cliffs with a couple of hangies and 3 other pg's nice day sunny etc. How about you? have you tried yet?

You were right! Had a tour of Eyam, Bradwell and Stanage. Virtually no wind. A couple of gliders had 3-4mins on Stanage. Got a wedding on Sat:(
